<p>osteoporosis.&#8221;  To which I responded, &#8220;I know you can, because I did it &#8211; -the natural way, without any drugs.&#8221;</p>
<p>Jenna insisted that her doctor had told her she should take a bisphosphate to prevent osteoporosis. And that if she did get osteoporosis she would be unable to reverse it.</p>
<p>How sad that there is so much ignorance about this condition.</p>
<p>I sympathized with her fear. No one wants to get osteoporosis.  The statistics predict that&#8230;</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>One half of all women over fifty will have an osteoporosis related fracture&#8230;<br />
</strong></li>
<li>The most common bone factures are the hip, spine, or wrist&#8230;</li>
<li><strong>Of those who sustain a fracture due to osteoporosis, many will never completely recover&#8230;</strong></li>
</ol>
<p>No wonder Jenna was worried&#8230;</p>
<p><span id="more-1423"></span><br />
But once we realize that the cause of osteoporosis is a deficiency of proper nutrients, and proper exercise, the way to reverse it is to supply those nutrients and proper bone building exercises.</p>
<p>I have sustained two hip fractures.  After the first one, the doctor informed me that he thought I had osteoporosis.  Fortunately, there were no osteoporosis drugs at that time and no dexa bone scan to cause the doctor to prescribe a bisphosphonate drug.</p>
<p>I am forever grateful that I turned to nutrition and discovered the natural way to reverse osteoporosis and to rebuild strong bones.</p>
<p>My second fracture for the same hip, but about an inch below the first break was due to a freak accident.  The surgeon who repaired it with a bolt and metal plate exclaimed to my husband after the surgery that he had to drill through where the first break had been and that it was, &#8220;like drilling through hard wood!&#8221;  He later shared that with me and added, &#8220;If you keep on doing whatever you are doing, don&#8217;t let anyone ever tell you that you have osteoporosis.&#8221;</p>
<p>What a relief that was for me to hear. Assurance that I no longer had osteoporosis.</p>
<p>You can probably understand why I am so disturbed when I come across news items like the following:</p>
<p>(HealthDay News) &#8212; &#8220;<strong>Osteoporosis is a disease</strong> in which the bones become thin, frail and brittle, and may break easily.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>I do not believe osteoporosis is a disease</strong>.  It is a condition that is <strong>not inherited and not permanent </strong>&#8211; if you really want to get better seriously enough to change your lifestyle. <p>The best part of my story is that I am now 82 years old and have no limitations for walking or even running. <p>was surprised to hear the doctor answer that <strong>&#8220;the number one  cause of osteopenia is poor digestion&#8221;</strong>.  That makes sense because it really doesn&#8217;t matter what we eat if the food doesn&#8217;t digest properly.</p>
<p>In her monthly health letter, speaking about indigestion, Dr.Nan Fuchs stated, &#8220;In no branch of medicine is treating symptoms rather than the root cause of the problem more common than when it comes to digestive problems.&#8221;</p>

<p>Pediatritions have prescribed it for children who have a tendency to repeat <strong>ear infections</strong>. The recommended amount is about 5 grams per day -achieved by chewing the gum or eating mints three to five times per day. The gum should be chewed about 5 minutes and mints should be allowed to dissolve before swallowing.</p>
<p>It has been a welcome ingredient in diabetic products as it is absorbed more slowly than sugar and does not cause elevated blood sugar levels. It also has less calories than sugar.</p>
<p>But you are probably thinking all those things are great, but osteoporosis?  You may be thinking I&#8217;ve completely lost my senses by making this statement.</p>
<p>Yes, I know I&#8217;ve warned about regular table sugar and how it hinders the absorption of calcium, magnesium and other minerals because it makes the digestive tract too alkaline for them to be digested properly.</p>
<p>But the most recent development that I&#8217;ve been anxious to share with you<br />
is that group of Finnish researchers has found that dietary xylitol prevents weakening of bones in laboratory rats, and actually improves bone density!  It has had beneficial effects on bone resorption, and also, bone structure.</p>
<p>What a blessing it is to know that the harmful effects of regular sugar are missing and exciting benefits are present in this great product!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We are  hearing reports frequently these days about our Vitamin D deficiency, which reminds me of an experience in my past.</p>

<p>During a visit to Cameroon, West Africa, it was interesting  to notice that  all the hospitals were built with a large courtyard area in the center.  The patients&#8217;  rooms were around the edge of this large square area with doors opening into that area.</p>
<p>The most remarkable element of the patient care that was that all patients were encouraged to spend several hours per day in the courtyard.  One of the missionary doctors remarked that the sun is one of the best medicines, and said  they had observed that during the rainy season when the patients were not able to get out into the sunshine, their recovery is slower for nearly every illness.</p>
<p>My African visit was many years ago, but recently I have thought about that experience many times as I have read about so much modern research that confirms the benefit of Vitamin D in relation to an almost limitless list of illnesses. We are just beginning to understand that our Vitamin D3 deficiency  contributes to many conditions, including&#8230;<br />

<li>Osteoporosis</li>
<li>Mental decline</li>
<li>Cancer</li>
<li>Depression -Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)</li>
<li>Autoimmune disorders</li>

<li>Parkinsons</li>
</ul>
<p>For this blog we are especially interested in <strong>osteoporosis</strong> and have learned that insufficient Vitamin D3 contributes to that condition by reducing the absorption of calcium to the bones.</p>
<p>Concerning <strong>mental decline</strong>, in a recent study with 858 participants who were 65 or older and were deficient in Vitamin D, 60 percent more were found to have substantial cognitive decline than subjects with sufficient Vitamin D levels.   Do you know anyone with Dementia who had a history of spending daily time out in the sun?</p>
<p><strong>Cancer </strong>patients in  eleven categories  including colon, breast, skin and prostate were all found to be deficient in Vitamin D.</p>
<p><strong>Depression</strong> in non-sunny weather is far more prevalent than in sunny seasons which is the reason for coining the term <strong>Seasonal Affective Disorder. </strong>This is also a condition for many who are indoors during the sunny times of the day in any season.<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Autoimmune disorders </strong>such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis are also on the rise.</p>
<p>And <strong>Heart Disease</strong> is still the number one cause of death in the United States.</p>
<p>Diabetes type I and II and Parkinsons have also been included on this list.</p>
<p>The Recommended Daily Allowance for Vitamin D  of 400 I U is ridiculously low.   We are now hearing  new recommendations of at least 5000 I U per day &#8212; only as much as your body will produce in 1/2 hour of  sunlight. Of course, if  you are wearing sunscreen or are taking a cholesterol lowering drug, your body will not be able to produce any vitamin D naturally.</p>
<p>If you are purchasing a vitamin D supplement, you need to be sure you are getting vitamin D3 as any vitamin D2 is synthetic and does not have the benefits of the natural vitamin.  Also, the sun is still our very best source for real vitamin D.</p>
